Christmas Pictures

Who knew bubble bath would be so exciting?!?!

Oh, yeah... I guess we better hurry and plant those tulips! Good thing we have months of winter left!!!!

So, I don't actually have pictures of our Christmas day (it's a long story involving a dead camera, forgetting the charger, a desperate call to the next door neighbor, who kindly crept down to our basement under cover of darkness, and a SIL who stopped and picked up the charger on her way to Raymond, so my camera could be ready for family pictures the day AFTER Christmas). So we did take a few pictures of the kids opening some of their presents that we'd left here at home, when got back to town...

Little Humor

A few funny things the kids have said lately...

Nathan: "Evan says he's going to destroy me!"
Sarah: "I'll protect you, Daddy! Evan told me what Karate is, so I know just what to do!"

(While explaining why he could do something the way he wanted-) "Well, because I'm the new emperor of the Roman Empire..." (3.28.10)

While appreciating a fun new word Hannah had learned, Evan said, "Hannah is worth more than a hundred bowls of golden mush!" (2.7.10)

When am I going to be in pre-school? I am un-patient for it!"

Because Sarah didn't brush her teeth on her own when asked this morning, I brushed her teeth with my toothpaste, which I know she doesn't like. As I scrubbed she said, "Mom! Your toothpaste is torturin' me!"

After hearing that Nathan's car battery was dead and needed jumping, Evan said "How could a family have such bad luck? Well, at least we still have the Williams (our next door neighbors)!"

Evan: (while eating dinner) Can you get a guy some meat?

Nathan: "What's keeping you from watching your morning video?"

Sarah: "My conscience!"

Evan: (after I made a decision he didn't like) "You know, Mom, if I could, I would control you!"

Evan: Mom, my love span for you grows and grows each time you say nice words!

Sarah: "Can we talk about protozoa?"

Sarah: "I'm fighting a war, you know."

"I have a wheel as a shield."

"My shield is a real dealed."

"That's a rhyming couplet, you know!"

Later in the day, after having seen a peace sign:

Evan: "Mom, can you draw that chicken-foot-with-no-heel?

Evan: "Do bad guys shave?"

Me: "Well, some of them do" (trying to decide if I should launch into an explanation of the differences between organized crime and independent thugs, and opting against it.)

Evan: "Well, this bad guy didn't..."

Sarah: "Do frozen peas grow in the winter?"

While playing with Sarah, Evan commanded: "Get up this moment and fight like a man!"

In her high pitched voiced, Sarah replied: "Okay, I will!"

Seeing me in a new skirt, Evan said, "Mom! You look GREAT!"

"Yeah? You like my skirt?" I asked.

"Yeah! I bet God is so happy with you when you look so good!"

Most breakfasts at our house involve waffles, and Nathan is usually the one to make them. One morning recently, I was going to make waffles, while Nathan slept in. I looked in all of the usually places, but couldn't find the waffle maker. When I commented on this she said:

"Silly, you can't find the wafflemaker, because he's still in bed!"

Me: How was your first day of Primary, Sarah?

Sarah: It was gold and shimmery! 1.4.2009

While watching the animated Book of Mormon video about Helaman's Stripling Warriors, Evan said: "Sarah! Look at this battle! I am learning some new fighting skills!"

Lately when Evan was presented fish for dinner he said, "Dad, I go through stages. I'm going though a "don't-eat-dead-things" stage. Except maybe breaded chicken!"

When someone did something that Sarah didn't like, she told them,"That really burns my beef!"

Sarah- "Princesses always wipe their nose!"

"Does ham come from hamsters?" -Sarah

Today Sarah got in trouble at nursery for tackling the other little girls. Nathan was telling me about this on the way home, when Sarah said, "Dad, don't say a word about it. I learned my lesson!"

Sarah, "Yum! My mom made us maggot pancakes!"

I said, "I was scared out of my skin!" and Evan replied, "Yeah? It was just your organs runnin' down the path?"

While digging around under and behind his bed,which we hadn't cleaned out in quite a while, Evan said, "Dad! There are lots of old memories back here!"

Evan said, "I would rather Dad go (to the swimming party) than you go, Mom. Because Dad is more fun. He sometimes lets me do things you don't let me do."

Speaking to Nathan, Evan looked at me and uttered these wise words: "She is always right!"

Evan: "Was Snori (an Icelandic ancestor of Nathan's) a Viking pirate?

Nathan: "I don't know- we can ask Nana"

Evan: "Oh! Was she alive back then?

Nathan: "Well, no...But everything I know about Snori I learned from Nana."

Evan: "I guess Nana knows more than you do, Dad."

Nathan:Well, about some things..."

I overheard Evan talking to 2-week-old Hannah today:

Evan: "Hannah, look! It's a flintlock pistol!"
